SUMMARY:4th DestinE User eXchange
DESCRIPTION:DestinE’s 4th Destination Earth User eXchange took place in Vienna\, Austria\, on 25 and 26 June 2025. The DestinE User eXchange events provide an opportunity for users to learn about DestinE’s progress. From experienced academic data users to developers and policymakers\, the User eXchanges are designed to foster dialogue and networking. These events bring together users\, service providers and the DestinE team to ensure that the platform delivers applications and services that meet diverse needs. \nThis edition was held during ESA’s Living Planet Symposium (LPS) at the same venue. Held every three years\, the LPS is among the world’s leading events on Earth observation (EO). The 2025 symposium emphasised transitioning from ‘observation to climate action and sustainability for Earth’\, reflecting the urgency of the climate crisis. This goal meets the overarching objectives of DestinE.  \nThe post-event report and materials will be made available in the subpages. \nPost-Event Report\nDownload the Post-Event Report and explore all highlights and keynote speeches.

SUMMARY:3rd Destination Earth User eXchange
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nDestinE is a European Commission initiative aimed at developing a high-precision digital twin of Earth for modelling\, monitoring\, and simulating natural phenomena\, predicting environmental changes\, and supporting sustainable development.\nEUMETSAT\, ECMWF\, and ESA oversee the implementation of the initiative\, leveraging their expertise to engage users and build partnerships through an open stakeholder dialogue. The DestinE User eXchange series plays a central role in showcasing the initiative’s progress and demonstrating its value to interested parties. \nObjective\nThe third User eXchange aims to convene current and prospective users of DestinE and developers of the DestinE system. During various sessions the resources available to users will be demonstrated\, highlighting how they can benefit. Goals include sharing information about the system’s status and use\, showcasing user interaction examples\, identifying expectations and requirements for future adaptations\, fostering dialogue between stakeholders and potential partners\, attracting interested parties\, and exploring ways to enhance interaction and engagement.\nThe event is hosted by EUMETSAT and will offer both in-person attendance and remote participation via webstream\, a dedicated Q&A tool\, live polling\, and interactive chat platforms. Training sessions on how to use the newly launched DestinE platform will also be provided and streamed to attendees. \nParticipation\nThe User eXchange welcomes participants from the scientific community\, as well as public and private entities seeking to develop or implement policies that can benefit from DestinE capabilities. This event is ideal for those currently engaged with DestinE or interested in gaining deeper insights into its potential. \nDetails\n\nDate: 15 – 16 October 2024\nOrganiser: EUMETSAT\nContact: events@eumetsat.int\n\nReport & Photos\nThe DestinE team compiled a detailed report on the event\, available below: \n\nEvent Report\nPhotos

SUMMARY:2nd Destination Earth User eXchange
DESCRIPTION:Destination Earth (DestinE) has evolved significantly over the last few months to bring forward a digital twin of the Earth system supporting decision-making in face of the challenges of climate change and the green transition. The effort is led by the European Commission and developed by the three entrusted entities\, the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF)\, the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT). \n \nThe 2nd User eXchange meeting took place 13-14 November 2023\, hosted by ECMWF in Bonn\, where the ECMWF DestinE activities are led. The event was an opportunity to share progress with the DestinE community and listen to users’ requests and feedback. This was the second Destination Earth (DestinE) User eXchange with the aim of further cementing the event as the forum for exchanges with DestinE stakeholders. It built upon the success of the 1st Destination Earth User eXchange and was co-organised by the European Space Agency (ESA)\, the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). \n\n\n\nFor a summary of the event download the post-event report here or  read the summary news article. You can discover a collection of the event photos here.

SUMMARY:1st Destination Earth User eXchange
DESCRIPTION:This free-to-attend event was hosted virtually and in person on 15 February 2023 in Frascati\, Rome\, Italy. \nPlease click here for the report of the event. \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nWhat is the first Destination Earth User eXchange?\n\n\n\nThis was the first of a series of regular events to establish\, grow and nurture a community of Destination Earth (DestinE) stakeholders. \n\n\n\nDestinE partners have decided to establish such events to inform the community on the progress in implementing DestinE and\, at the same time\, identifying stakeholders or prospective partners and understand the needs of the community so that the initiative can develop in synergy with its (potential) users. The User eXchange also aims at identifying prospective partners and understand stakeholder expectations and possible avenues for interaction. \n\n\n\nWhat is Destination Earth?\n\n\n\nThe Directorate-General for Communications Networks\, Content and Technology (DG-CNECT) of the European Commission has entrusted the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF)\, the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) with the implementation of the DestinE initiative. \n\n\n\nDestinE aims to develop – on a global scale – a highly accurate digital model of the Earth to monitor and predict the interaction between natural phenomena and human activities. As part of the European Commission’s Green Deal and Digital Strategy\, DestinE will contribute to achieving the objectives of the twin transition\, green and digital. \n\n\n\nA broad stakeholder engagement is key to the success of the DestinE initiative and the three entities have been cooperating closely in developing a joint strategy towards user engagement and partnerships. This strategy includes setting up an open stakeholder dialogue aimed at the wider community ensuring engagement of all relevant players. The DestinE User eXchange is intended to become a central building block of this dialogue.
