Having an analytical approach and troubleshooting with integrity\, she has been at the core of the company\, accompanying it from a regional startup to international market leader. \nProf. Gerd Heilscher is a recognized expert in smart grids and decentralized renewable energy integration\, and member of VDI\, VDE\, IEEE\,ISES\,DGS\,DMGVAND SmartGrids BW and Leads Task14 (Photovoltaic in a 100% RES based power system) of the International Energy Agency. In the semester (2011/12)\, he carried out analyses in the USA on rapid irradiation changes and their effects on the power grid in Hawaii. In 2014\, he was awarded the Science Prize of the City of Ulm. \nDr. Ingo Schoolmann is a mathematician and software architect with expertise in EO data processing\, cloud computing\, and machine learning. He is involved in OHB international (EU\,EUSPA\,ESA) as well as national project playing the role of a project leader\, or software developer. He has expertise in developement of cloud and machine learning solutions\, software architecture design\,and EO data processing. Finishing his PhD in 2020 in mathematics he has a strong mathematical background\, received prize award for his scientific work\, and several publications in highly ranked scientific journal. \nDr. Kaouther Belkilani is a senior researcher and team leader at Smart Grids Research Group since 2021. She holds a Ph.D. in in Energy meteorology at the University of Elmanar in Tunisia (2020) and specializes in solar resource assessment\, PV power forecasting\, and grid optimization. This webinar is geared towards scientists working with biologging data and interested in performing fish track reconstruction. We will explore the two key components of our integrated system: \nThe first component focuses on modeling. We’ve developed a Jupyter Hub-based modeling environment designed for running fish track reconstruction algorithms in a hosted and scalable setting. This pangeo-based infrastructure includes various features\, notably the pangeo-fish open-source modeling framework. We’ll demonstrate how to conduct fish track reconstruction using pangeo-fish within the GFTS infrastructure. \nThe second component covers making data accessible to a wider audience through our decision support tool. We’ve created a data processing pipeline that converts output into web-friendly formats\, seamlessly integrating with our graphical user interface\, accessible online via the DestinE platform. \nAbout GFTS\nGFTS revolutionizes ocean protection and fisheries management by streamlining the analysis and visualization of fish biologging data. \nExplore the GFTS on the DestinE Platform! \nScientists can leverage GFTS to convert raw biologging data into fish tracks within a scalable environment. Traditionally\, operators rely on Static Line Rating\, which often leaves a significant portion of the grid underutilized. Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) leverages real-time weather data to determine the actual capacity of transmission lines. \nThe Belgian Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI)\, Elia\, PropheSea\, and GeoSphere Austria are currently developing a next-generation pilot service for Dynamic Line Rating\, as part of ECMWF’s Destination Earth initiative. SUMMARY:2025 30th EUMETSAT Meteorological Satellite Conference
DESCRIPTION:The 2025 EUMETSAT Meteorological Satellite Conference will be held in Lyon\, France from 15 to 19 September. Organised by EUMETSAT in collaboration with Météo-France\, the conference will bring together the global meteorological and Earth observation community to explore how space-based technologies are helping societies prepare for the impacts of weather and climate change. \nThis year’s theme – “From Space to Safety: Earth Observation for Future Weather and Climate Preparedness” – highlights the essential role of satellite data in forecasting\, risk management and policy support. The programme includes plenary\, poster and workshop sessions\, covering topics such as international EO programmes\, altimetry from space\, prediction evolution\, decision-making applications\, data integration\, and sea ice remote sensing in the Arctic. \nTwo hands-on short courses will be offered: one on severe storm nowcasting using MTG data (16 September\, 12:00–14:30)\, and another on EUMETSAT active fire products using Python (18 September\, 12:00–14:30). Participation is limited and can be indicated during registration. \nRegistration is now open. Fees range from €420 (early bird) to €540\, with discounted rates for students. The early registration deadline is 18 July 2025. Early check-in and a welcome drink will take place on Sunday 14 September from 16:00 at the Lyon Congress Centre. \nThe venue\, located in the Cité Internationale district of Lyon\, offers modern facilities and easy access to restaurants\, hotels and the Parc de la Tête d’Or. These events bring together users\, service providers and the DestinE team to ensure that the platform delivers applications and services that meet diverse needs. \nThis edition was held during ESA’s Living Planet Symposium (LPS) at the same venue. Held every three years\, the LPS is among the world’s leading events on Earth observation (EO). The 2025 symposium emphasised transitioning from ‘observation to climate action and sustainability for Earth’\, reflecting the urgency of the climate crisis. DESCRIPTION:This June\, Destination Earth (DestinE) will be featured at the Living Planet Symposium (LPS) in Vienna\, Austria. The initiative will be highlighted in key sessions alongside discussions on Digital Twin (DT) technologies for Earth observation and climate action. \nHeld every three years\, ESA’s Living Planet Symposia are among the world’s premier events on Earth observation (EO). The event provides a forum to present and discuss the latest scientific findings and applications based on satellite data\, and to review the contribution that data and technologies have made and could further make in addressing environmental and societal challenges. \nAs the climate crisis intensifies\, the Living Planet Symposium 2025 (LPS25) highlights the urgent need to move from Earth observation to climate action and sustainability. DestinE can be an important tool in this transition and will therefore be featured in several sessions throughout the event. \nOne session\, “Collaborative Innovation: Building a Digital Twin of the Earth System through Global and Local Partnerships\,” will explore the power of collaboration in developing a system as complex as DestinE. Bringing together diverse stakeholders\, this session will showcase how joint efforts can drive innovation and progress. \nAnother session\, “Synergies between ESA’s DTE Programme and DestinE Ecosystem\,” will examine how ESA’s Digital Twin Earth (DTE) programme can complement DestinE and look into the opportunities provided by the DestinE Ecosystem. ESA’s DTE programme aims to help ESA’s Member States use Earth observation capabilities to shape the next generation of pre-operational Digital Twin ecosystems. \nThe “Technological Innovations for a Digital Twin of the Earth System” session will highlight the latest advancements in data acquisition\, processing\, modeling\, and visualisation. Speakers will explore how cutting-edge technologies—such as AI\, machine learning\, and high-performance computing—are driving high-fidelity simulations of Earth’s complex systems. \nFinally\, the session “Using Earth Observation to Develop Digital Twin Components for the Earth System” will showcase recent advancements in ESA’s EO-based Digital Twin Components.
