The main workshop programme will be hosted in downtown Bologna\, which will provide delegates with opportunities for evening socialising and exploring the rich cultural environment of the region. There will also be a visit to the Tecnopolo di Bologna – ECMWF’s data centre and latest supercomputing facility.  \nWorkshop description\nEvery second year ECMWF hosts a workshop on the use of high performance computing in meteorology. With increasingly more heterogeneous technology being integrated to deliver HPC and research infrastructure solutions\, combined with the growth in complementary cloud-based services and raising diversity in the research domains requiring access to computational facilities to deliver insight – the theme of the 20th HPC & Meteorology Workshop is “Diversifying HPC“.   \nThese topics are closely related to the digital twins ECMWF is developing for Destination Earth\, as they will be deployed on several HPC systems made available by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking.   \nThe workshop brings together experts in high-performance computing from across the national weather centres\, academia and industry to discuss and present recent developments in high-performance computing for weather forecasting applications. Under this year’s theme of ” Diversifying HPC” ECMWF aims to cover a range of topics exploring the challenges and opportunities these present to the weather and climate community\, from identifying people and encouraging greater diversity in our communities\, the diversity in the technology being deployed in delivering solutions (heterogeneous/modular computing)\, and increasing diversity regarding the future of supercomputing both with hybrid on-premise/cloud integration and alignment with AI/ML community developments.  \nThe objective of the workshop is to provide a forum where users from ECMWF Member States and around the world can report on recent experiences\, achievements\, and future plans in the field of high-performance computing.\n \nKey topics\n\nOpportunities presented by heterogenous computational ecosystems\nDiversifying workflows\nPorting of weather and climate codes to heterogeneous architectures\nEmerging high-performance computing technologies and associated operational considerations (including energy awareness\nChallenges in diversifying and identifying technical expertise\nAligning conventional HPC/ML techniques to benefit weather and climate\nDigital twins of the Earth\n\nThe workshop will be comprised of keynote talks from invited speakers\, 20-30 minute overview talks and expert presentations\, as well as interactive panel facilitated Bird-of-Feather style open discussions\, interspersed with various networking opportunities throughout the week.   \nThe draft programme and more event details are at https://events.ecmwf.int/event/329/  \nAttendance\nRegistration for in-person attendance is now closed If you would like to attend the workshop online\, please contact events@ecmwf.int \nJoin the DestinE Community
