Living Planet Symposium 2025
June 23 @ 8:00 am - June 27 @ 5:00 pm CEST

This June, Destination Earth (DestinE) will be featured at the Living Planet Symposium (LPS) in Vienna, Austria. The initiative will be highlighted in key sessions alongside discussions on Digital Twin (DT) technologies for Earth observation and climate action.
Held every three years, ESA’s Living Planet Symposia are among the world’s premier events on Earth observation (EO). The event provides a forum to present and discuss the latest scientific findings and applications based on satellite data, and to review the contribution that data and technologies have made and could further make in addressing environmental and societal challenges.
As the climate crisis intensifies, the Living Planet Symposium 2025 (LPS25) highlights the urgent need to move from Earth observation to climate action and sustainability. DestinE can be an important tool in this transition and will therefore be featured in several sessions throughout the event.
One session, “Collaborative Innovation: Building a Digital Twin of the Earth System through Global and Local Partnerships,” will explore the power of collaboration in developing a system as complex as DestinE. Bringing together diverse stakeholders, this session will showcase how joint efforts can drive innovation and progress.
Another session, “Synergies between ESA’s DTE Programme and DestinE Ecosystem,” will examine how ESA’s Digital Twin Earth (DTE) programme can complement DestinE and look into the opportunities provided by the DestinE Ecosystem. ESA’s DTE programme aims to help ESA’s Member States use Earth observation capabilities to shape the next generation of pre-operational Digital Twin ecosystems.
The “Technological Innovations for a Digital Twin of the Earth System” session will highlight the latest advancements in data acquisition, processing, modeling, and visualisation. Speakers will explore how cutting-edge technologies—such as AI, machine learningField of statistical research focused on training computatio More, and high-performance computing—are driving high-fidelity simulations of Earth’s complex systems.
Finally, the session “Using Earth Observation to Develop Digital Twin Components for the Earth System” will showcase recent advancements in ESA’s EO-based Digital Twin Components. Experts will discuss the integration of data from multiple sensors, the design of system architectures, the role of AI and machine learningField of statistical research focused on training computatio More, and other key topics shaping the future of digital twin technology.
Details of the event and agenda can be found here.
Meet the DestinE Teams
Beyond these featured sessions, DestinE’s teams will be available all week in the booth area, providing attendees with direct access to experts. Visitors can explore various booths to attend presentations on different DestinE topics, schedule one-on-one consultations with specialists, and discover ways to engage with and contribute to the DestinE ecosystem.
4th User eXchange at the LPS 2025
In addition to the LPS25 sessions, the 4th DestinE UserInstitutions or individuals exploiting DestinE capabilities, More eXchange, held on 25–26 June 2025 in, Vienna, will be a pivotal event in shaping DestinE’s future. While LPS25 will highlight the latest advancements in Digital Twin technologies, the User eXchange will provide a dedicated platform for users, experts, and stakeholders to gain in-depth insights, explore DestinE’s capabilities, and discuss its progress and future potential. More details can be found here.
With DestinE and the broader Digital Twin landscape in the spotlight, attendees will have the chance to participate in a full week of discussions, presentations, and hands-on experiences at one of the year’s most significant Earth observation events, with no overlapping sessions to ensure everyone can make the most of the agenda.
