Destination Earth System goes live on Monday, 10 June 2024 in an official launch event from the LUMI Supercomputer Center in Kajaani, Finland.
Destination Earth (DestinE) will be an active participant at EGU24, the event of the year for the domain of earth sciences.
This challenge invites you to conceptualise a service powered by DestinE, drawing inspiration from a narrative set in 2050. We seek innovative ideas that, while not necessarily feasible today, are imaginatively rich and could pave the way to a better future. Join us in envisioning a remarkable 2050, armed with the solutions to today’s challenges.

As an official observer to COP27, ESA representatives participated throughout the event to highlight the value space-based observations bring, not only to the scientific understanding of climate, but to climate model validation to improve predictions of future change; and also the growing use of satellite information in enabling the global community and nation states to take climate action and track progress towards nationally pledged commitments to limit global warming that are enshrined in the Paris Agreement.
As part of their respective tasks under Destination Earth, ECMWF, ESA and EUMETSAT intend to procure scientific and technical capabilities and solutions to deliver the first phase of Destination Earth. The procurements will be published in the form of Invitations to Tender (ITTs). This event provided a high-level overview of each of the organisations' intended activities and procurements, and offered the opportunity for interested parties to ask questions.
This seminar is part of the ECMWF's Science and Technology Seminar Series. Within this series are a set of talks that focus on the development of digital twins in the context of the Destination Earth initiative.
ESA’s 2020 Φ-week event kicked off with a series of stimulating speeches on Digital Twin Earth, updates on Φ-sat-1, which was successfully launched into orbit earlier the same month, and an exciting new initiative involving quantum computing.
