As an official observer to COP27, ESA representatives participated throughout the event to highlight the value space-based observations bring, not only to the scientific understanding of climate, but to climate model validation to improve predictions of future change; and also the growing use of satellite information in enabling the global community and nation states to take climate action and track progress towards nationally pledged commitments to limit global warming that are enshrined in the Paris Agreement.
As part of their respective tasks under Destination Earth, ECMWF, ESA and EUMETSAT intend to procure scientific and technical capabilities and solutions to deliver the first phase of Destination Earth. The procurements will be published in the form of Invitations to Tender (ITTs). This event provided a high-level overview of each of the organisations' intended activities and procurements, and offered the opportunity for interested parties to ask questions.
